Julian Burton practices the art of visual dialogue. His nine year old son provides us with the best description of his work. 'My dad makes pictures of problems so that people can talk about them.' SCEPTrE realised the power of his visualisation techniques and our walls are covered with the symbolic and metaphorical pictures and mental models that help us in our meaning making and help us communicate what we are trying to do.

Visual dialogue is a process that enables people and teams to reveal in a rich picture their understandings of themselves, their relationships to others, their organisations, the environments in which they work and their challenges and opportunities. By visually structuring complex problems, Julian creates a picture that can be shared and discussed, focusing attention, energy and creativity on what is important and significant to be discussed.

During the conference Julian collaborated with Caitlin Walker to help participants' turn their understandings of what being professional means into compelling rich pictures.Participants' Pictures of being professional.
